Faith-Filled Generosity - Introduction

They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.

1 Timothy 6:18-19 NRSVA

Taking “hold of the life that really is life” is something to which we all can aspire. That is a life filled with generosity based on our faith in a God who is generous in all things.

The TENS theme for 2020/21 is a call to each one of us to be “generous and ready to share” so that our futures are secure and our lives are worth living. Eugene Peterson writes it this way in The Message:

“Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage — to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.”

For 2020, TENS will offer bulletin inserts for each season of the Church year, beginning with Epiphany. This year, we will offer at least two reflections for the season of Pentecost or Ordinary Time. In October and November, we will offer inserts for each Sunday from October 4 through November 22. We will continue to offer the TENS resources in English and Spanish.

In addition to the reflections, we will provide pledge cards; sample letters from the rector, senior warden and stewardship chair; a sample thank you letter; and Prayers of the People for use during the annual pledge season.

All of these materials are available free for TENS members. We hope you find these materials helpful. If you would like to write a reflection or have suggestions for other materials that would help you increase the faith-filled generosity in your congregation, please contact us at

Thank you.
